Ickford School

French at Ickford School

Every child begins learning French from the Early Years Foundation Stage, building confidence and familiarity with the language from the very start of their education. We actively encourage pupils to use French in meaningful, everyday contexts—whether during assemblies, while collecting House points, or as they move around the school.

In the warmer months, we host a popular French Café from 8:30–9:00am. Here, pupils can order croissants and pain au chocolat—all in French—bringing language learning to life in a fun and practical way.

Every other year, pupils in Years 5 and 6 take part in a residential visit to Rue, France. This immersive experience allows them to explore French culture firsthand while also deepening their understanding of the First World War through visits to key historical sites.
