Ickford School

PHSE (Personal, Health, Social and Economic Education) and RSE

Statement of Intent – Ickford School

At Ickford School, we aim to give every pupil the skills, knowledge, and confidence to grow into confident, respectful, and well-rounded individuals. Our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) curriculum supports pupils’ personal, social, spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development, helping them thrive now and in the future.

Children learn about different types of bullying, including those related to protected characteristics like race, gender, disability, religion, or sexual orientation. We also teach the correct vocabulary for male and female genitalia and provide sensitive support during puberty, particularly in Years 5 and 6.

Our lessons help children to:

  • Understand their rights, responsibilities, and duties

  • Develop self-confidence, resilience, and independence

  • Work well with others and build positive relationships

  • Stay safe online and offline

  • Learn about health, wellbeing, and financial literacy

  • Explore the wider world and become active, informed citizens

All lessons are age-appropriate, inclusive, and respectful. British Values are woven throughout our PSHE curriculum.

We follow statutory guidance on relationships and health education. Ickford School does not deliver additional sex education beyond statutory requirements. Parents/carers have the right to withdraw their child from any non-statutory lessons, and alternative arrangements are provided.

This ensures every pupil receives a high-quality, safe, and supportive PSHE and RSE education, helping them grow into responsible, empathetic, and resilient members of the community.
