Equalities Statement
At Ickford School, we are committed to promoting equality of opportunity, inclusion and diversity across all aspects of school life. We ensure that every pupil, staff member, parent and visitor is treated fairly and with respect, irrespective of race, sex, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender identity or background. We strive to create a community in which all feel valued, confident in their identity, and able to participate fully.
We recognise our responsibilities under the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) and work actively to:
-
Eliminate discrimination and disadvantage
-
Advance equality of opportunity by meeting different needs and addressing barriers
-
Foster good relations between pupils and adults of all backgrounds
We believe that diversity is a strength and celebrate the individuality of our pupils and staff through teaching, learning and the broader curriculum. All pupils are provided with opportunities to succeed, reach their potential and prepare for life in a diverse society. Teaching and resources are inclusive and reflective of our school and wider community, challenging stereotypes and promoting respect for all.
We promote equality in participation by ensuring that trips, residential visits, co-curricular activities and sports clubs are accessible to all, with financial support available when needed. We monitor attainment, progress and engagement to identify and address gaps between groups, including by gender, ethnicity, disability or disadvantage, and take timely action to support pupils’ achievement.
We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to bullying and harassment, with clear behaviour strategies, the ‘Steps to Stop’ pupil empowerment approach, and an open culture in which all children and adults are listened to. Aspirational activities and engagement with professionals from diverse fields ensure all pupils are supported to broaden horizons and raise ambitions.
All staff recruitment, development and promotion are conducted fairly and transparently, in line with equality legislation. Policies and practice are regularly reviewed to ensure they continue to promote inclusion, remove barriers and foster a sense of belonging for all members of the Ickford School community.
