PE and Sports Premium

Primary PE and Sport Premium

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is government funding provided to all primary schools to improve the quality of PE, sport and physical activity. The funding continues to be provided and must be used to support one or more of the five key indicators. Ickford School publishes an annual PE and Sport Premium report outlining how the funding has been spent and the impact it has had on pupils’ physical activity, skills and wellbeing.

The funding can be used to support the following key indicators:

  • Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity, including meeting the Chief Medical Officer’s recommendation that children and young people aged 5–18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day, of which 30 minutes should be within school time

  • Raising the profile of PE and sport across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement

  • Increasing the confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport

  • Providing a broader experience of a range of sports and activities for all pupils

  • Increasing participation in competitive sport

At Ickford School, we are committed to providing children with a wide range of physical activities and sporting experiences that encourage healthy, active lifestyles. We ensure that every child is active each day through a combination of:

  • ‘Wake n Shake’ routines before learning begins

  • Positive and active playtimes using our ‘Huff n Puff’ equipment and climbing wall

  • A strong and varied taught PE curriculum

  • A broad range of co-curricular clubs available before, during and after school

Co-curricular Clubs (Examples)

  • Athletics and Running

  • Tag Rugby

  • Basketball

  • Football

  • Netball

  • Hockey

  • Infant Games

We also broaden pupils’ experiences by offering an annual residential visit for Years 5 and 6, alternating between France and England and by participating in a range of sporting events throughout the year.
