Smartphone Free Childhood
Join us on Thursday 14th May 7-8.30pm to learn about the initiative 'Smartphone Free Childhood'.
A “smartphone-free childhood” is an approach that encourages children in primary school to grow up without their own smartphones, giving them more time to develop social skills, independence and confidence through real-world experiences. Instead of constant access to screens, messaging and social media, children are supported to build friendships face to face, which is especially important in their early years. This approach also helps protect them from online risks such as inappropriate content, cyberbullying and excessive screen time, while allowing parents to introduce technology and age-appropriate apps gradually and in a more controlled, age-appropriate way as their child matures.
The session, Let’s Talk About Our Kids & Their Tech, offers parents and carers clear, research-backed insights and practical strategies for managing children’s mental health and tech use. It covers the impact of smartphones and social media, helping families set healthy boundaries and make informed choices. The session is non-judgmental, open for honest discussion, and for adults only.
